Energy Field Trips which helps defray the cost of transportation and/or

It’s
a short, easy application that can give you entrance to really fun camps or
help pay for environmentally-related studies in college. Ticket sales from our

12 Sat – 9 am * Annual Bald Eagle Field Trip with The
Eagle Institute — Join us in celebrating the Institutes 10 years of educating
the public about Bald Eagles. Meet at the Eagle Institute in Lackawaxen; dress
warmly in layers and wear waterproof boots. Call Barbara for details at 570

Bruce Natural Area — Bring your hiking boots, cross-country skis, or snowshoes,
depending upon the conditions, for a leisurely trip along the trails of Bruce

of the Barn Owl! — Get the facts on attracting Barn Owls to your property or
farm from Game Commission Biologist Kevin Wenner. This is a great presentation
for anyone interested in these helpful and elusive birds. Co-sponsored

6 Sun – 1pm Waterfowl in
April! — Some of our most common waterfowl have arrived and others, not so
common, are passing through. We will try to locate some of these colorful birds
and perhaps see some of our early
migrant song birds. We

Earth Day Celebration — A day to honor Planet Earth
with many fun and
exciting programs for kids and adults. We will do bird hikes around Lake Wallenpaupack

4 Sun – 8am to 10am Bird
Walk for Beginners — This is when the birds of spring
are singing their hearts out. Bring binoculars and sturdy shoes for this easy
walk. Call Kathy at 570 253-9250 to sign up. Vicinity of Lake Ariel.
10 Sat – 5am
to 12pm International Migratory Bird Day! — We need
you to find and count our migratory songbirds. Some are passing through and
some will stay. The data will be sent to the US Fish and Wildlife Service for
compliation into a national data bank. Let’s do the count together all over Wayne County.
All skill levels welcome; we can match you up with a more experienced birder

June
15 Sun – 1pm Canoe Trip —
See the Delaware River from another
perspective and get some exercise too! A
covered dish supper at the Dodge-Snyder cabin nearby will follow the trip. If
you don’t have a canoe, a limited number will be available, but call early.

21 Sat – 8am Bird Walk at Brown-ing Beaver Meadow — Join
us at our 78-acre sanctuary in Lookout PA for a chance to see and hear some of
our common and not so common breeding birds. All level of birding skills

Sat &Sun – 10am to 5pm Audubon Art and Craft Festival — The “Very Best Art and Craft Show in the tri-state area”
with juried artists from several states and Canada ...nature programs – live
hawks, owls and mammals, nature and wildlife films and exhibits. Bring the
kids! The entrance fee supports NEPAS college and camp
scholarships. Wallenpaupack Area School Complex, Rt. 6, Hawley, PA.
August
2 Sat – 2pm Nepas’
Installation of Officers Picnic — Join us to usher in new officers and enjoy

September
14 Sun – early am Raptor Migration
at Sunrise Mountain — The Broadwinged Hawks begin
their southward migration, a journey which brings them over the northern Kitta-tinny Mountains in Sparta NJ.
This is a spectacular sight to behold and anyone with a love for
raptors won’t be
disappointed! Call Barbara at

20 Sat – Day trip *Annual Alternative Energy Bus Trip — Attend the Renewable
Energy and Sustainable Living Festival in Kempton, PA (about a 2 hr. trip) Bus
departs from Honesdale in the morning, returns in the evening. Also, pick-up
& drop-off point in Scranton.
This comprehensive festival and conference includes workshops on sustainability

19 Sun – 2pm Lenape Childrens Circle
— Shelley DePaul of the Lenape Nation will present a program of traditional
games, a Candy Dance, drumming, singing in the Lenape language, and making of
traditonal crafts by the children who attend. Also, Audubon’s 2008 scholarship
recipients will share their experiences at environmental camps. PP&L Environmental Learning Center, Rt. 6 Hawley, near the Wallenpaupack HS. For more details,

to 25 Tues forward – 8pm Saw-Whet Owl
Banding — Revel in the migration of this, our smallest nocturnal raptor (8”). Witness, first hand, its capture (in mist nets), banding, and the
collection of valuable data. A few lucky attendees will be able to hold
one and help in its release. This is a time-dependent event; at the last minute
these little guys let us know they’re heading south. For up-to-date

Count — This survey provides critical data for
scientists who study the long-term trends in bird populations. Participate and
learn how we conduct this local bird count – area within a 7.5 mile radius of

The Northeast Pennsylvania Audubon Society
(NEPAS) was founded in 1971 as
a local chapter of the National Audubon Society.
NEPAS is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with about 600 members. The annual Audubon
Art and Craft Festival is its major fund-raising event. Proceeds support
scholarships to college students pursuing an environmentally-related major and
to youths and adult leaders for camps in Maine,
Vermont and
other camps closer to home. NEPAS also funds environmentally-focused school
programs and organizations.
